Benedict - Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia

February 01, 2019

Being a part of Union Group, diners would already have a high expectation for what they'll be able to offer although it may not be a comparison to their ongoing success with Union Cafe. Its aim is to bring hearty meals using the finest and freshest ingredients as well as offering various brewed coffee options.

Located in the LG floor of the East Mall in Grand Indonesia, they're surrounded by various other restaurants too. With its classic, rustic and old style interior, I felt that they may be trying to provide a homey ambience from its design.

Benedict serves an all day breakfast menu along with lunch options such as sandwiches, steak, salad, burgers along with various desserts and drinks.

Wanting to have a side of something crispy, I ended up ordering their Truffle Parmesan fries which I thought was not bad but I wished there was more of that truffleness taste in every bite. The parmesan was also placed on top of the bowl of fries making the rest of the fries empty. Just, plain fries.

Looking through their Breakfast menu, one item caught my eye.. their Pork Belly Benedict, consisting fried mac & cheese patty, crispy pork belly, portobello mushrooms, oven-roasted green tomatoes and green hollandaise. Presentation wise was not bad but the side of mixed greens was rather wet and scruffy.

The green hollandaise was definitely eye-catching and the fried mac and cheese patty was rather an interesting touch and twist from the traditional toasted buttered bread base.

Fried mac and cheese patty, gosh, usually you would see these as small balls served as an appetiser or an entree. But it worked well actually however I did find it a bit bland. But having the green hollandaise, the pork belly and tomatoes, it helped bringing the taste out.

Since the benedict did not have a bread base, the green hollandaise didn't make the fried mac and cheese patty soggy nor did it actually overly power the pork belly and mushroom.

The eggs were cooked well and perfectly runny, the mushrooms added that chewy and springy texture into the dish but also added that palate cleanser throughout the bites.

*Please note this is a delayed post and as such, the menu may have changed since my visit to the establishment.
